To every family member, friend, coworker, and
stranger who has had unpleasant encounters with
the version of me that I don't want to be.
There is nothing I can do to stop it.

She said something that I think will put you in the right mind-set as you rise up as the nurturing warrior wolf you were born to be: "The jab keeps them busy, but the cross is your power."

My kids love to play with the dome lights in the car.  There is something satisfying about the way a dome light clicks on and off, so I completely understand the urge.  My wife and I have tried to instill an awareness of the need for these lights to be turned off before they get out of the car, but this doesn't always go as well as we would hope.  So it was no surprise when Jennie told me her car battery was dead.

I'm always looking for an excuse to feel like a manly man, so I valiantly told Jennie, "No problem.  I've got this!"  Then I said to my oldest daughter, Alivia, "Come help Dad jump Mom's car" and motioned toward the garage as though I were Tim "the Toolman" Taylor.

I popped the hoods of both cars.  "We're going to use the life from my car, to send life to Mom's," I explained.  But Alivia looked at me quizzically when I told her that the next step was to find the snaky things with the metal teeth.  (Granted, that's probably not how your average automotive shop describes jumper cables.)

Unfazed by her rapidly deteriorating level of childlike amazement, I carefully connected the cable to both batteries.  "Being careful is key, especially after the live battery is hooked up," I told Alivia.  "Because if the teeth of the two clips touch once you have juice flowing, well... you got a one-way ticket to sparky town, baby.  Sparky.  Town.  Been there, done that, so don't want to go back."

Once I'd started my car, I asked Livy to get behind the wheel of Jennie's and fire it up.  "Livy, hit it."

Nothing.

"I said, hit it."

Nothing.

"Righty-tighty, baby, righty-tighty."

"Um, Dad?  Is the garage supposed to be full of so much smoke?"

"Just turn it again, honey...  Wait, what smoke?"  I asked as her question finally hit my brain a full five seconds later.

"Daddy, the jumper cables are melting!" she cried.

I shot out of my car.  Sure enough, the jumper cables were melting, like the faces of the Nazis in Raiders of the Lost Ark.  Burnt rubber dripped all over the cars, all over the ground, forming a puddle made up of liquefied black and red cable.

The smart thing would have been to turn off my car, or to tell Alivia to run for help, but I didn't know what to do. I just stood there, watching in disbelief.

GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY

Whether you recognize it or not, you're at war with yourself.  There's anxiety.  Selfishness. Self-sabotaging tendencies.  Narcissism.  The black dog of depression.  The inability to do the great things you long to do because you spend so many hours mindlessly drifting through the Internet.

It is war, but all is not lost.  You can win - if you choose to engage.

In I Declare War, Levi Lusko candidly shares about his struggles with moodiness, bullying, suicidal thoughts, night terrors, and difficulty managing himself.  He identifies four weapons you have at your disposal - thoughts, words, behaviors, and power - and illustrates how to use them to achieve ongoing victory.  These practical tools from God's Word will help you learn to
  • retaliate against your anxiety by filling your heart with truth and making it inhospitable to terror
  • stop being victimized by your bad behaviors and become the victor you were born to be
  • overcome self-imposed isolation by learning to think right so you can live right

It's time to stop being your own worst enemy.  Declare war and become the person, the spouse, the parent, and the leader God intended you to be.

"Through his own story, [Pastor Levi] strives to help others get out of their own way and into the truth of who they are in God.  This book will help you do just that!"
TIM TEBOW.  HEISMAN TROPHY WINNER, NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR

"The practical tools, scriptural teaching, and trusted guidance found in I Declare War are invaluable to anyone who wants to embrace victory in thelr own life!"
LYSA TERKEURST.  NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR
AND PRESIDENT OF PROVERBS 31 MINISTRIES

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.
